The Vice President is “In Charge Of the U.S. Senate.” So Says Palin.

Here’s the exact quote, in case you missed it:

They’re in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to, they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom.  And it’s a great job, and I look forward to having that job.

Article I of the Constitution spells out pretty explicitly what the job of the Vice President is, in regards to its role in the Senate:

The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no vote, unless they be equally divided.

Please, please, PLEASE, Ms. Palin — allow yourself to be subjected to a press conference.  There has to be more to you than these horrific soundbites and botched interviews.  You’ve got to reassure the American public that you’re fully capable of understanding the position you’ve been nominated for by Mr. McCain.

Please.
